How Tubidy Music Lists Work
Where each music list on this site comes from, what it measures and what it does not.
Charts and Song Lists
None of the lists on this site is an official national chart. Most are results of Tubidy's own music search for a fixed topic and refresh automatically:
| List | How it is made | When it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Popular South African Music (home page) | Tubidy search results for popular South African songs | Every few hours |
| Music of the Day (home page) | One song from the home page list for each day | At midnight, Johannesburg time, and when the list refreshes |
| Popular Artists (home page) | A fixed set of South African artists; each name opens a search | When we update the page |
| Top Videos | The first results of the same search as the home page list | Every few hours |
| Every genre and mood page (hip-hop has a second list, for South African hip-hop) | Tubidy search results for that genre or mood; on the Amapiano, Gospel, Maskandi and Gqom pages the artist list counts each artist's songs in it | Every few hours |
| Playlists | Selected South African Music uses the same search as the home page list; Amapiano Selection uses a search for amapiano | Every few hours |
| Top Searches | The site's own list, in the order shown on the site | When we update the page; the page shows the date |
Data and Time Windows
Search results are not ranked by play count, and the site does not publish how its Top Searches list is put together or which time period it covers. For that reason we do not describe any list as "this week", "most played" or "trending", and we do not show play counts.
Refresh Times
The song lists refresh automatically every few hours, and each page is rebuilt at most once an hour. Music of the Day is picked from the home page list for each Johannesburg day; because the list refreshes, the pick can change during the day.
Corrections and Availability
A song on a list can become unavailable, and titles or artist names can be written differently on different uploads. If a list shows the wrong details, tell us through the Contact page.
